Call to Action
Tragically, gender discrimination and poverty make millions of young women the victims of violence every day. Education gives girls a chance to become economically self sufficient and equips them to fight oppression. KEEP supports the education efforts of Apne Aap, an NGO helping educate at-risk girls in India.
Underwriting an educational program for 160 girls in India, ages 8 to 17, at-risk for being sold into brothels. And running a penpal email exchange matching the Indian girls with local women and girls, including a local afterschool program aimed at helping struggling American teens.
In our first year, we raised $11,875, which supported 130 girls in programs that provided tutoring, English language instruction, and non-formal education (sewing, karate, nutrition, self advocacy and life skills). 100 penpal letters helped girls in India and the U.S. practice writing in English and gain global perspective.
The Running Goddess 5K raised $3,300 for KEEP on June 1st. Thank you runners and supporters!
